Which One is Better Between The Two?
There’s no doubt a newer product is always better than the old ones. And the Roomba 805 is not an exception when compared to the earlier Roomba 650.
The former obviously surpasses its predecessor when it comes to performance, dirt and dust detection, battery life, and even navigation. Keep reading to learn more about their differences in-depth.
Roomba 650 Design
The Roomba 650 looks reasonably similar to previous models, with its circular style and gray/black stripes of color that make for a sleek design entirely. It can’t escape the industrial design of a vacuum, yet it manages to be a little glossier than previous versions.

The cleaning process may last around an hour, and it will immediately come back to the charging station. When the dust-bin is full, it will start a light indicator telling you it is time to empty. Eventually, you let it charge, and that’s it.
You can start the product once again the next morning, day, or whenever you want, and it will keep your floor effectively clean without any issues.
Roomba 650 Maintenance
Maintenance of the Roomba 650 is fairly simple, yet still a little more far-fetched than with other types of vacuums.
Mainly, it is recommended to empty the dustbin each time the device goes to its docking station, even if the little residue it has inside. However, the other parts are the ones that could eventually make it harder.
First, you have the front caster wheels and the ones alongside the extractors. These wheels may eventually catch a lot of dust and dirt, but it is the hair that makes the wheels finally get stuck with time. It is recommended to clean them by detaching every one or two months.
The brushes & extractors also need huge clean at least once every month. A lot of build-up from hair especially might eventually damage the Roomba completely. Otherwise, you may eventually make a total mess if you are not careful enough. Especially when removing the filter, you’ll have to be patient & diligent.
The rest of the parts to take care of are the cliff sensors, which can be easily cleaned with a dry cloth at least once a month. Then you have the front caster wheels and the ones alongside the extractors.
These ones come with a superior design, which means they don’t get as much hair or dust inside, yet they need constant maintenance (cleaning every two months).
The side brush and the extractors need constant cleaning too, but with the strangle-free design they offer, it’s common to find much less hair & build-up than with the Roomba 650. We recommend doing brush cleaning at least once every week.
Lastly, you have the charging contacts. It is almost the same way as with the previous model, just use a dry cloth or foam, making sure you clean both the contacts on the device and the docking station. As you see, it is a little more patience-demanding but far easier than with the Roomba 650.

For us, however, it all comes down to what you prefer in the end. The Roomba 805 is more convenient, more effective, and easier to maintain, yet it will cost you more.
On the other hand, the Roomba 650 won’t cost you that much but will still provide the same features as with the 805 but a little less polished, such as the navigation system and the clog-free extractors & brushes.
But of course, we recommend the Roomba 805 over the 650. There’s no doubt we always go for the better product, and this time it is the 805 that wins. Not to dismiss the 650, that being an older model still manages to offer an excellent performance & experience overall.
